The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry has hailed the government’s decision of reopening export-oriented manufacturing factories amid the ongoing lockdown.
Expressing his gratitude towards the government in a press release on Saturday, FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin urged the government to reopen all manufacturing factories so that investments and employments of thousands of people do not suffer.
The FBCCI president also called on the government to keep banks open across the country in line with factories to facilitate transactions.
Export-oriented manufacturing factories received the government nod on Friday to resume operations from August 1 amid the ongoing lockdown.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification to this effect.
The government enforced a strict lockdown from July 23 to check Covid-19 infections, which rose sharply in recent weeks.
The decision came a day after exporters met Cabinet Secretary Khondkar Anwarul Islam to ask for approval for resuming production in their factories from August 1.
The exporters requested the workers, who are out of workplaces, to reach workstations once restrictions are relaxed. If the workers act accordingly, they will not lose their jobs.
