Chartered secretaries must keep in touch with contemporary issues, say professionals

Amid the ongoing pandemic chartered secretaries should be equipped with updated knowledge on contemporary professional, marketing, and business issues, speakers said at a webinar on Saturday.

They recommended development of ICT lab and e-library to leverage knowledge. They stressed on sharing life stories from successful students and facilitating online classes

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) organised the virtual discussion session titled “Digital Marketing - CS Profession” on Saturday. The programme was attended by a large number of members and students of ICSB, government officials and professionals from different fields.

The keynote paper further recommended the development of an alumni profile and participation in different events and fairs. The paper also stressed on linking with prominent organisations through career festivals; and increasing online courses.

A.H.M Shafiquzzaman, Council Member of ICSB and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present at the event as the chief guest. Muzaffar Ahmed FCMA, FCS, president of the institute chaired the session and delivered the welcome speech.

The keynote paper on the subject was presented by Nayeem Ahmed, Brand In-Charge, Multiply Digital. Md Selim Reza LL.B., FCA, FCS, Vice President of ICSB and Partner, ARTISAN, Chartered Accountants and Md. Azizur Rahman FCS, Council Member and Head of Public Affairs & Company Secretary of British American Tobacco Company Limited, Bangladesh were the official discussants at the event.

The discussion session was opened by Md Shafiqul Alam LL.B., FCMA, FCA, ACS. He introduced all the invited guests of the programme to the attendees.

Muzaffar Ahmed FCMA, FCS, president of institute, said that through this kind of discussion sessions, members of the institute have been enormously benefited with updated knowledge on contemporary professional, marketing, and business issues.

The keynote paper presenter by Nayeem Ahmed elaborated on various aspects of digital marketing. He spoke on different facts and justification of digital marketing of CS profession in the current online world.

He also discussed the importance of websites for traffic generation, artificial intelligence (AI) powered chat-bots, search engine optimisation (SEO), e-newsletter, and the process of making attractive contents and videos. He emphasised on making a strong digital presence which ultimately helps institutions to grow.

Nayeem Ahmed recommended development of ICT lab and e-library to leverage knowledge. He stressed on sharing life stories from real-life successful students so that others are inspired.

The keynote paper further recommended the development of an alumni profile and participation in different events and fairs. The paper also stressed on linking with prominent organisations through career festivals; and increasing online courses.

During discussion, Md. Selim Reza LL.B., FCA, FCS emphasized on the need to go beyond traditional business promotion strategy and elaborately discussed on the necessities and means of digital marketing.

Md. Azizur Rahman eloquently highlighted the merits and demerits of online classes and emphasised on the need to continue these classes after the pandemic. He also stressed on making available diverse e-materials and on digitising the admission system. He suggested the accumulation of digital marketing recommendations of all participants and implementations of these initiatives to move ICSB forward.

Muzaffar Ahmed FCMA, FCS said that the recommendations made at the event would be noted and incorporated in the development plan gradually to improve the institute digitally.

The chief guest at the event A.H.M Shafiquzzaman highlighted Bangladesh’s success in fighting Covid-19 pandemic. He mentioned that Bangladesh is now getting the benefit of the concept of “Digital Bangladesh”. He stressed on building global connectivity.
