ICAB to provide study loans to its students

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh has launched a project to provide interest-free study loans to its current and course completed students to facilitate their study in chartered accountancy upon fulfilling some criteria.

Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh inaugurated the ‘Quard-E-Hasana Project’ on Wednesday, said a press release.

ICAB will provide the loan determining the eligibility on the basis of students’ past academic examinations results, and the financial strength of their families.

The project has been designed and introduced to provide financial support to the brilliant but financially insolvent students who seek to continue their studies in chartered accountancy, said ICAB President Mahmudul Hasan Khusru.

He said, initially BSRM came forward willingly to donate to the fund and ICAB expects more businesses houses, corporate houses, government, donor agencies and the members of ICAB will also come forward to donate in future under their CSR initiatives.

Highlighting some features of the project, he said this fund will be disbursed to the students under specific terms and conditions so that they could support themselves while studying in chartered accountancy.

The objectives of the project are: to attract more brilliant students to CA profession, to increase the number of accounting professionals to meet the growing demand of the rapidly changing economy of the country, to bring the talented brains in CA profession who will be more capable with updated knowledge to meet the complex need of the industry and face the future challenges and can represent the profession efficiently.

ICAB Vice Presidents -- Sidhartha Barua, Maria Howlader, Council Members NKA Mobin, Sabbir Ahmed, Moniruzzaman, Mahamud Hosain, Mohammed Forkan Uddin and CEO Shubhashish Bose were present at the inauguration event.
