PHP Ship Breaking & Recycling Industries Limited, one of the country’s largest conglomerates, has received Maritime Award-2021 for its outstanding contribution to the shipping sector.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun handed over the award to Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, the founding chairman of the PHP family, at a function held in the capital on Thursday, marking the occasion of World Maritime Day.

“We are overwhelmed, happy and proud to receive the award,” said Sufi Mizanur Rahman while expressing his immediate reaction soon after receiving the award.

He thanked the government, shipping and industries ministries for the honour. “We have long been working in this sector since the country’s independence. We have mesmerised the world with our world-class shipbreaking and recycling work,” he added.

“The honour has broadened the area of our responsibility. We are ready to work harder to protect the dignity of our nation in the future,” he further said.

“One day we will turn ‘Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bengal) into ‘Hirar Bangla’ (Diamond Bengal),” he made a hope.

This year, the awards were given in five categories for special contributions to the shipping sector by the Department of Shipping.

PHP Shipbreaking and Recycling Industries Limited for Green Ship Recycling, SR Shipping Limited for Ship Acquisition, Haque And Sons Limited for Ship Fairers Employment, Bangladesh Marine Academy for Maritime Training and Captain Nasir Uddin and crews of MV Jawad for bravery in the sea got the award this year.
