Marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the LankaBangla Foundation has taken an initiative to encourage people in planting trees and giving the capital city a greener look.

As parts of the programme, themed “Let’s plant trees to build Bangabandhu’s dream country,” the foundation will gift different types of tree saplings to the children in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area.

It joined hands with the DNCC authorities to execute the plan of distributing saplings in the next five years, read a press release.

The LankaBangla Foundation kicked of the programme through handing over saplings to the DNCC authorities at an event held at the corporation building on Thursday, added the release.

Khwaja Shahriar, managing director and CEO of LankaBangla Finance Limited, inaugurated the programme by handing over saplings to Md Selim Reza, chief executive officer of the DNCC and Brig Gen Md Zobaidur Rahman, its chief health officer.

The main objective of the tree distribution programme is to encourage all to plant trees on their own initiative to make the golden jubilee of independence and the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation specially meaningful.

At the same time, it aims at greening Dhaka city, increasing the forest resources of the country and maintaining environmental balance.

LankaBangla Foundation has been organising tree distribution programmes in the country each year as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities to prevent land degradation, fruit production, long term environment and biodiversity conservation.
