The apex trade body of Iraq -- Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce -- wants to sign an agreement with the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for mutual cooperation.
Abdussalam Saddam Mohaisen, the Charge De Affairs of Embassy of Iraq in Bangladesh, came up with the disclosure on Sunday while paying a courtesy call on FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin, said a press release.
The diplomat said they already sent a letter to the foreign ministry regarding the cooperation plan. He also handed over a copy of the letter to the FBCCI president during the meeting, added the release.
Md Jashim Uddin, on behalf of his organisation, responded positively to collaborate with the Iraqi businesses and said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is likely to be signed soon.
Besides, the FBCCI chief called upon Iraq to import various products including ready-made garments from Bangladesh.
FBCCI Senior Vice-President Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu, who also attended the meeting, conveyed Bangladeshi companies’ interests to invest in the construction sector of Iraq as it has been going through a mass-reconstruction process.
The Iraqi ambassador assured that his government will provide all possible assistance to the Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in this regard.
FBCCI Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque was also present at the occasion.
Currently, the FBCCI has strategic partnership with 132 trade associations of different countries.
