BASIS signs training deal with British Computer Society

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) has signed a training accreditation agreement with the United Kingdom based British Computer Society (BCS) on Thursday.

The agreement was inked at the opening session of ‘Bangladesh Investment Summit 2021: Building Sustainable Growth Partnership’ organised by Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir and BCS Learning & Development Ltd Managing Director Lucy Ireland MBCS, and Stephen Tweed, International Onboarding & Support, BCS L&D were present.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina witnessed the signing ceremony as the chief guest, BASIS said in a statement on Friday.

Syed Almas Kabir said there is no substitute to internationally certified skills for remaining competitive at the export as well as local market ahead of Bangladesh's journey towards embracing the 4IR technologies at the optimum.

He further informed that export earnings of Bangladesh IT/ITES sector have already reached to US$ 1.3 billion while, domestic market now stands at US$ 1.4 billion, creating about 1 million jobs here.

Maintaining this continuity, it is important to acquire global-standard skills by advancing ICT sector of Bangladesh, he added.

To achieve this goal, BASIS signed the agreement for implementing internationally recognised capacity programmes through BASIS Institute of Technology & Management (BITM). Through this agreement, individuals involved in local ICT will have the opportunity to participate in advanced ICT training programmes to acquire 4IR cutting-edge skills accredited by the United Kingdom based BCS.

The vision of the agreement is to fulfill the necessity of equipping Bangladesh's ICT industry with modern skills and providing IT-related professional certifications spanning from artificial intelligence to software testing, said the statement.

Bangladesh's ICT sector will progress one step further by signing this agreement, said BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir. More to that, implementation of this agreement will increase client confidence in Bangladesh's ICT industry and its human resources, he added.

Private Sector Industry and Investment Adviser to Prime Minister Salman F Rahman, BSEC Chairman Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Md Sirazul Islam, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA) Executive Chairman Major General Md Nazrul Islam and Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Saida Muna Tasnim were also present in the inaugural ceremony of the summit.
