GP receives highest taxpayer award for six successive years

Grameenphone (GP) was awarded the highest taxpayer in 2020-2021 tax year in the telecommunication category by the NBR for the six consecutive year for its highest amount of tax contribution to the state coffer.

In a bid to honour the highest taxpayers with cards and crests, NBR has organised an event on November 24 at Officers’ Club in the capital, GP said in a statement on Friday.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal was present as the chief guest while FBCCI President Jashim Uddin was present as the special guest.

Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, Senior Secretary, Internal Resources Division (IRD) and Chairman, NBR, presided over the ceremony.

GP Chief Financial Officer Jens Becker received the tax card, crest, and certificate for the significant contribution of the company. Grameenphone has made to the government expenditure on economic infrastructure for the betterment of the citizens.

Earlier, Grameenphone was acknowledged as the highest taxpayer by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for the tax years 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2019-2020 in the telecommunication category.

Jens Becker expressed his gratitude and joy upon being awarded by the apex body of tax administration in Bangladesh.

“We are humbled to achieve this milestone through our strong governance and commitment towards ethical business practices. We are honoured to contribute to the national exchequer and further progress towards our shared vision of a self-sustained Digital Bangladesh and empower the nation. This achievement is a testimony of digitalisation and automation by NBR, and their continuous support and acknowledgment inspires us to excel ourselves.”

During the event, NBR has recognised a total of 141 highest taxpayers, including 75 individuals, who contributed the highest amount of taxes to the national exchequer for fiscal 2020-2021.
