‘Women participation a must to implement future economic plan’

FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin on Friday said larger participation of women in the workforce is a key factor to attaining future economic and development goals.

“Half of the country’s population is women, who are successfully fulfilling their responsibilities in various important positions. Women make up half of the workforce in the industrial sector, including readymade garments. In addition, rural women entrepreneurs have kept the country’s rural economy afloat,” he said.

“Therefore, the active participation of women is essential for the successful implementation of the future economic plans of Bangladesh.”

Jashim Uddin was addressing the welcome speech on the third day of a 16-day gala celebration titled “Bijoyer 50 Bochhor: Laal Shobujer Mohotshob”, organised by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).

The event was held at the Hatirjheel Amphitheater in the capital with the participation of women, said a FBCCI statement on Saturday.

The FBCCI chief said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman laid the foundation for the social and economic position of women in today’s Bangladesh.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ensured the financial and social empowerment of women in its continuation. Her various initiatives have increased the participation of women in parliament,” he said.

Jashim said the country’s apex trade body has always been supportive of women entrepreneurs with its 21 women’s chambers and associations across the country. Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was present as the chief guest.

State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque, former FBCCI President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, among others, were present.
