The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) has dedicated the fourth day of its ongoing 16-day victory festival to National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, in a bid to pay tribute to his contribution to the country’s independence.

“Innumerable songs and poems written by Kazi Nazrul Islam had inspired the freedom fighters during the difficult days of the Liberation War. In his writings, Bangladeshis of all religions, castes and professions have been awakened in patriotism,” said FBCCI Senior Vice President Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu.

He was addressing the 4th day of the “Bijoyer 50 Bochhor: Laal Shobujer Mohotshob” gala celebrationat Hatirjheel Amphitheater organized by the apex trade body.

He also said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman brought Nazrul Islam back to the country soon after independence and conferred on him the status of National Poet.

Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, who attended the session as chief guest, said Bengalis were always exploited. If Bangabandhu had not made the country independent, Bengalis could never have been rulers.

“And the once unfamiliar Bangladesh under the worthy rule of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of Bangabandhu, has now become known around the world as a role model for development,” added the minister.

State Minister for Culture KM Khalid addressed the function as special guest. He said this year is the 100th year of Nazrul’s “Bidrohi” poetry. At the same time Bangabandhu’s birth centenary and one hundred years of Dhaka University have been completed. So Nazrul festival is very significant in this gala celebration.
