Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Bangladesh on Thursday organised a half-day consultation workshop with civil society organisations and media on ‘Country Programming Strategic Plan’.

The workshop was held at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council in the capital where around 40 participants attended, said a media statement.

The objective of the consultation meeting was to share the outcomes of the Country Programming Strategic Plan (2022-2026) and set achievable goals for next five years align with FAO of the UN’s mission and vision in achieving food security and sustainable economic development.

It also aimed to explore avenues for collaboration and partnership to co-create solutions to the constraints affecting food security, agricultural growth, and employment in the country.

Food security situation in Bangladesh has improved considerably, especially on the availability side, said Director General (Additional Secretary) of the Food Planning and Monitoring Unit Shahiduzzaman Faruki, who attended the workshop as the chief guest.

Further sustainable improvements on access to nutritious food and utilisation needed renewed large-scale efforts from the government, civil society and the development partners.

Shahiduzzaman stressed importance on increased mass awareness and sensitisation about transformation of a nutrition-sensitive at the same time nutrition-specific food system.

Terming women as the drivers of change for nutrition -sensitive agriculture, he further encourages productivity and economic empowerment of women as a logical priority of agriculture programmes and policies that seek to promote agricultural development.

Mizanur Rahman, national governance policy advisor as the chair of the event, and Dr Mohammad Monirul Hasan, market and trade policy advisor, FAO Bangladesh facilitated the programme.
