Daffodil International University (DIU) has held its ninth convocation with colorful events at the Daffodil Smart City in Savar on Monday.
Delegated by President and also DIU Chancellor Md Abdul Hamid, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni chaired the convocation ceremony and conferred the degrees, said a press release.
Professor Kazi Shaidullah, chairman of University Grants Commission, delivered a video message as the special guest while Nobel Peace Laureate Kailas Sattarthy of India virtually attended the convocation as the convocation speaker.
The gala event was also addressed by Dr Md Sabur Khan, chairman of DIU Board of Trustees, and Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman, vice chancellor of DIU, Professor Dr SM Mahabub Alam Majumder, its pro-VC.
In the ninth convocation, a total of 12168 students, of which 10343 are graduates and 1825 post graduates, were conferred with graduation and post-graduation degrees.
Among them, 12 best result oriented graduates were awarded ‘Gold Medal’ under different categories.
The DIU introduced a gold medal marking the golden jubilee celebration Bangladesh and another one -- Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Gold Medal – in the convocation.
In her speech, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said, “We only talk about problems, do not find solutions. When we turned on Television, the talk shows only discuss about the problems. We talk a lot. We think a lot, but we can't think deeply about any problem.”
She noted, “The country will not develop if we do not take initiative to solve these problems.”
