Ride-sharing giant Uber has started its journey in Rangpur with one of its most popular products, Uber Moto.
With the development, all eight divisions have now come under the popular ride-sharing facility.
Armanur Rahman, head of the Uber’s Bangladesh and East India chapter, said, “We are thrilled and excited to expand our horizon to a new region at the very beginning of this new year.
“Over the years, Uber has changed how the world moves by powering billions of rides and deliveries, connecting millions of riders, businesses, drivers, and couriers across the world at a scale like no other. With this launch in Rangpur today, we have achieved the milestone of expanding our operations to all the eight divisions of Bangladesh,” he was quoted as saying in a press
release.
Launched in 2016, Uber quickly became the ride sharing platform of choice in Bangladesh by offering convenient, affordable and safe ways to commuters. According to the release, Bangladesh represents a tremendous opportunity for the company. Since its launch 5 years ago, it has served over 4.9 million riders and almost 200,000 driver partners, till date.
The Rangpur launch will help riders to experience hassle-free, affordable and safe commutes, in addition to unlocking meaningful earning opportunities for driver partners, it said.
Uber is aiming at providing a seamless commuting experience for the people of Rangpur - anytime, anywhere.
Besides creating micro-entrepreneurship opportunities in 2021, Uber provided 25,000 free rides for vaccination to frontline healthcare workers and elderly and vulnerable citizens through its partnership with the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
Additionally, it provided 50,000 free rides for vaccination to all riders and residents of Dhaka. Recently, it ran a campaign to raise awareness to reduce noise pollution by encouraging drivers to honk responsibly.
Uber Technologies, Inc., commonly known as Uber, is a US company based in San Francisco, with operations in over 900 metropolitan areas worldwide.
Its services include ride-hailing, food delivery (Uber Eats and Postmates), package delivery, couriers, freight transportation, electric bicycle and motorized scooter rental via a partnership with Lime, and ferry transport in partnership with local operators.
Uber does not own any vehicles; instead, it receives a 25 per cent commission from each booking.
Fares are quoted to the customer in advance but vary using a dynamic pricing model based on the local supply and demand at the time of the
booking.
In the second quarter of 2021, Uber had 101 million monthly active users worldwide.
How to book an Uber Moto
Download the Uber app for iOS or Android and create an Uber account, using your mobile phone number and email id.
Open the Uber app and enter your destination under ‘Where to’. Select your destination and rideshare product options will show up at the bottom of the screen. Swipe on the product selector panel to find MOTO and HIRE and pick your desired ride.
Confirm your pickup point and request. You will get connected with the Uber closest to you and you’re all set to go.
