The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Scholarship has been introduced for visually impaired students at Dhaka University (DU). 

Under the programme, some 20 visually impaired DU students will get Tk 3,000 per month as scholarship.

BSEC Chairman Prof Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam handed over a cheque of Tk 7.20 lakh to DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman at the latter’s office on Tuesday, said a press release.

DU Treasurer Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Economics Department Chair Prof Dr Mahbubul Mokaddem, Mass Communication and Journalism Department Chair Prof Dr Abul Mansur Ahmed, DUTA Secretary Prof Dr Md. Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan and Director of ICT Cell Prof Dr Mohammad Asif Hossain Khan were, among others, present on the occasion.

Addressing the occasion, VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for bringing the distressed, physically and financially challenged students under social safety network to make an inclusive society and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

He also emphasized on strengthening relationship between industries and academic institutions to produce skilled human resources. 

The VC called upon the corporate houses to come forward with their helping hands for establishment of special research fund at DU.  He thanked BSEC authorities for providing scholarship to DU visually challenged students.
