A 31-member central executive committee of the World Bangladeshi Buddhists Council (WBBC) was formed during the first council held virtually on Sunday.

Members from every corner of the world joined the first meeting virtually and cast their vote to elect the committee.

Dibbendu Barua Auto was made president while Mitayan Chakma was the general secretary for three years.

The committee has been formed to meet the centuries-old needs of the Buddhist community as well as to protect the community from extinction, to spread Buddhism among children and the elderly Buddhists around the world, said a press release.

The organisation will also eye to make economic development of the Buddhist community, said the release adding that the head office of the organisation is in Australia.

The four-and-a-half-hour long program began with the recitation of the Holy Tripitaka, which was filled with great enthusiasm and fervour.

To accelerate the activities of WBBC, the organization has taken initiative to open its branches in different countries and continents soon.

The other members of the WBBC Central Executive Committee are:
