BEZA to launch business continuity plan in EZ

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) is planning to introduce a business continuity plan in economic zones across the country.

As part of this initiative, an inception workshop on business continuity plan was held at a city hotel on Thursday, BEZA said in a statement.

The Programming Division of Bangladesh Planning Commission and BEZA have jointly organised the workshop.

According to the statement, Programming Division is supporting BEZA for this piloting with the assistance of the National Resilience Programme (NRP) technically supported by UNDP and funded by FCDO of UK and Sida of the Government of Sweden.

Under this piloting initiative, guidelines will be developed for area-specific and enterprise-level business continuity plans and capacity development training on business continuity plans will be imparted to the business administrators and BEZA officials.

Initially, the business continuity plan will be piloted in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpanagar, Mirshari, Chattogram, and Meghna Industrial Economic Zones in Narayanganj.

The key objective of the business continuity plan is to protect the investment in economic zones from disaster-related losses and develop an institutional mechanism for promoting resilience in business. Professor Rakib Ahsan, team leader for the business continuity plan consultants’ team shared the working approaches of the business continuity plan.

BEZA Executive Member Mohammad Erfan Sharif chaired the programme while Socio-Economic Infrastructure Division of Bangladesh Planning Commission Member Nasima Begum addressed the workshop as the chief guest.

A total of 50 representatives from different government ministries, divisions, and business associations participated in this event.
