Traidcraft Exchange arranged a half-day workshop on ‘Fighting forced labour with Adivasi & Dalit Communities in South Asia’, also recognized as MUKTEE Project.

Discussants of the project, which is co-funded by the European Union, disseminated their findings at a renowned hotel in the capital, according to a statement.

The objective of this workshop was to share the activities, findings, and impact of the project in the presence of project participants, project donors, implementing partners and other stakeholders.

Traidcraft Exchange has arranged this workshop to engage the project participants, association and advisory committees with local authority representatives and others to share their exclusive insights from their communities and their voice in a national event.

Project MUKTEE was designed to introduce systemic changes to enable ethnically minor communities to sustainably free themselves from the shackles of forced labour (including bonded labour) and child labour.

The project is being co-implemented by Jan Sahas in four districts of Madhya Pradesh, India and ASSEDO in Bangladesh in two districts in the Northern part of Bangladesh (Tanore, Rajshahi and Nachole, Chapai Nawabganj).

After three and a half years of scheduled duration, the project came to its closure on June 30, 2022, and MUKTEE has successfully removed bonded labour from 2059 households, 4118 people in Rajshahi District.

Shahed Ferdous, Country Director of Traidcraft Exchange, said what motivated Traidcraft to start a project like MUKTEE. He also declared that the second phase of this project would be started soon so that the development done in these three years should not be wasted.
