Bangladesh Commerce Bank inaugurates Islamic banking activities

Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd (BCBL) has inaugurated Shariah-based Islamic banking activities recently with all modern banking facilities.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud was present at the inauguration program as the chief guest. The program was presided over by the bank’s Chairman Dr Engr Rashid Ahmed Chowdhury. The bank’s Managing Director and CEO Md Tajul Islam was present as the special guest, according to a statement.

Among others, Hafez Mufti Muhammad Muhibullah Baki, Chairman of Shariah Supervisory Committee, Humayun Bakhtiyar FCA, Chairman of Board Executive Committee, Dr Md Shafiqul Islam FCA, Chairman of Board Audit Committee, all divisional heads of the head office, executives, managers of various branches and esteemed customers were also present.

Dr Hasan Mahmud said that initially Gulshan branch in Dhaka and Muradpur branch in Chattogram is going to start Islamic banking activities. Branches will be able to win the hearts of customers by providing personalized services.

He hoped that the Islamic branches with all facilities would play their due role in accelerating the economy of their respective areas.

Md Tajul Islam in his speech said that gradually the district level branches will also be converted to Islamic banking. In this way the bank will become fully Islamic one day.

Informing the area of the two Islamic banking branches as a growing business area, he said it would be possible to provide all types of banking services to the customers of the area within the banking rules.

Dr Engr Rashid Ahmed Chowdhury in his speech expressed his hope to expedite the services of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd in all regions of the country.
