Pathao, Uber team up to ensure safer ridesharing

Pathao and Uber on Wednesday announced a joint campaign to raise the bar for safety standards in the Bangladesh ridesharing industry in an effort to enhance the overall customer experience.

In the first phase, these two ridesharing companies will collaborate to increase awareness of the existing safety mechanisms and measures available on both platforms, according to a press release.

These include trackable, insured rides with verified details of the drivers and vehicles; and stringent mandatory document validation standards, which the companies believe make ridesharing trips a safer method of transportation.

Pathao and Uber will also roll out a common driver partner training module to the entire base of drivers on their platforms. The goal is to educate driver partners about how they can help ensure their own safety as well as the safety of riders.

The training module will include general guidelines for motor vehicle movement; traffic signs and how to use them; the implications of violating traffic and road safety rules; and various other relevant topics in accordance with the regulations.

Pathao CEO Fahim Ahmed said, “We have always prioritised the safety of our riders and passengers and have undertaken different collaborative approaches with government and non-government entities. We strongly believe that this collaboration with Uber will help us to set a higher industry standard for safety and ensure quality rides for all.”

Armanur Rahman, head of Bangladesh & East India, Uber, said, “Safety and magical user experience have always been our top priority. Since its inception, the ridesharing industry has gained people’s trust and confidence successfully because of the safety and convenience we provide during every ride. Today, we are thrilled to join hands with Pathao to raise that bar even higher. By taking bold, transparent steps as a company, we’ve not only strived to improve the safety of our own platform but also set new industry standards for safety.

He added, “We also partner closely with the regulators and key policy stakeholders and are aligned to their goal of making ridesharing safer for the people of Bangladesh, our riders and drivers.”
