Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) has been ranked 44th among the top 50 universities in the World Universities with Real Impact (WURI) ranking this year.

The Canadian University of Bangladesh ranked 44th in the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution' category because of the innovation and impact of the Department of Shipping and Maritime Science. Overall, the university ranks between 201 and 300 among all universities in the world, said the university in a statement on Monday.

In this project, the technique of applying fourth-generation artificial intelligence in shipping has been chosen. An algorithm has been developed that enables the safe navigation of ships in waterways without human intervention.

It is capable of ensuring the safety of waterways as well as risk monitoring or determining what to do in emergency situations. WURI's Founding Director and Seoul National University Professor Emeritus Hwy-Chang Moon congratulated the Canadian University of Bangladesh on receiving this honour.

Hwy-Chang Moon said in an e-mail to the Vice-Chancellor of the Canadian University of Bangladesh, Professor Dr HM Jahirul Haque, “We believe your expertise and innovative programmes are worthy of being shared with other educational institutions. That is why we request you to share your improved or new innovative programs with WURI in the coming year as well.”

Dr Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat said, “The Canadian University of Bangladesh is always committed to creating world-class educational opportunities. That's why everyone associated with this organization is continuing their relentless efforts.”
