Speakers placed a number of recommendations for overcoming challenges in the country’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector.
They recommended this while addressing a daylong programme titled ‘Corporate Connect Event for MSMEs’ at a hotel at Gulshan in the capital jointly organised by B-SkillFUL & Swisscontact, and LightCastle Partners, a Bangladeshi business consultancy firm, said a press release on Wednesday.
The suggestions are increasing direct investment for expanding business of women, easy availability of loan from banks and other financial institutions, increasing the amount of loan for private sector.
The suggestions also included making the process of getting trade license easier, arranging training for entrepreneurs, making linkage of MSME sector as helpful for big industry, and imparting modern training on information communication technology as per present requirement.
Annually about 20 lakh youths enter labour market in the country. They are forced to work permanently in mainly non-formal sector due to lack of necessary skill. There is 80 per cent scope for employment in the non-formal sector. Hence, it is needed to give importance to the issue of acquiring skill of the workers in order to create employment facility in the sector, they added.
“It is also imperative to take realistic steps to enhance the quality of services and develop business for increasing productivity in MSMEs sector”.
Supported by Switzerland Embassy in Bangladesh, the event was organized as part of Corporate Connection Event for MSME Business Development Support Service.
The event’s goal was to create a matchmaking platform between the leather goods and furniture making MSMEs with lead firms and financial institutions, leading to increased trade and investments to boost sectoral competitiveness.
It was also aimed at a knowledge-sharing discussion on the challenges and opportunities of MSMEs to work in tandem with mainstream enterprises.
Moderated by Ivdad Ahmed Khan Mojlish, Managing Director of LightCastle Partners, Dajna Sorense, Team Lead of B-SkillFUL; Md. Moqbul Hossain, senior manager of Swisscontact; among others, spoke on the occasion.
Dajna, in her speech, said it is important to know as to how an entrepreneur can be successful.
