BEZA signs MoU with Fire Service

The Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence to strengthen the fire safety in the BEZA economic zones.

The agreement was signed at the office of the department of fire service and on Thursday, a press release said.

BEZA Manager (MIS and Research) Sheikh Mohammad Zobayed Hossain and Fire Service and Civil Defence Director (Planning, Development and Training) Lt Col Md Rezaul Karim signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

The MoU aims to reduce the risk of fire accidents in the economic zones through the use of modern and advanced firefighting equipment and rescue vehicles, to deal with any type of fire accident, to ensure a safe working environment and to conduct rescue operations in the event of fire or any other accident through skilled and trained manpower.

Furthermore, the agreement will play pivotal role in countering any disaster including accelerating sustainable industrialization and urbanization in line with the 8th five-year plan and sustainable development goals and Indicators.

According to the agreement, the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defense will provide overall assistance to BEZA in all related activities, including the establishment, management and maintenance of fire service and civil defense stations to protect the safety of industrial establishments and property in the economic zones.

It is mentionable that, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council has already approved the Development Project Proposal (DPP) for establishing two modern fire stations inside the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar. The cost of the project is projected to be around Tk 122 crore.

After the implementation of the project, the fire station and all the equipment will be handed over to the Department of Fire Services and Civil Defense to be maintained by trained personnel of Fire Services and Civil Defence.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar is emerging as the first planned and multi-dimensional industrial city of the country, which was developed with Mirsarai, Sitakunda and Sonagazi upazilas of Chittagong. Already, land has been allotted to various investors in this vast industrial city and currently 15 industrial construction works have started here.

An investment proposal of around $20 billion has already been approved by BEZA in the industrial city area and around 100 industries will be built here, employing around 1 million people. BEZA is working tirelessly to gain the confidence of investors and maintain the continuity of ongoing development activities by establishing seamless connectivity of all utilities in the said industrial city.
