TikTok partnered with Brac to make a donation worth USD 250,000 in order to reach the flood-affected areas with urgently needed food support.
Bangladesh was hit with one of the worst floods in years, leaving millions in Sylhet and Sunamganj homeless and without any belongings in May. The sudden floods devastated the country’s northeastern regions destroying homes and uprooting lives of millions of people.
During the flash floods, the region recorded 972 millimetres of rainfall, the highest in 122 years. More than 4.3 million people were impacted by the flash flood and water congestion. More than 9 million were homeless, and displaced women and girls were particularly vulnerable whilst they shelter out in the open or in unfamiliar locations.
Many communities also faced the added challenge of a total lack of electricity, meaning they were then unable to keep in contact with family members and friends to ensure their safety.
