IDLC, Prothom Alo honour best SME entrepreneurs

IDLC Prothom Alo SME Award 2022 has recognised 6 SME entrepreneurs who have taken themselves to unique heights through their tireless work and dedication.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi was present as the chief guest at the gala event of the programme, which was held on Monday at a hotel in Dhaka, IDLC Finance said in a press release.

IDLC Finance Limited MD and CEO M Jamal Uddin, Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, and other senior officials of both organisations were also present at the event.

The jury panel for the programme consisted of Dr Nazneen Ahmed, Country Economist at UNDP, Md Jaker Hossain, SME and Special Programme Specialist of Bangladesh Bank, Farzana Khan, Deputy General Manager of SME Foundation, Khondkar Siddique-e-Rabbani, Founder of Bi-BEAT Limited and the winner of IDLC Prothom Alo SME Award 2021, Mirza Nurul Goni Shovon, CIP and President of National Association of Small and Cottage Industries of Bangladesh, and Md Gazi Tauhidur Rahman, Managing Director of FM Plastic Ltd.

Out of 2,229 nominations received, the esteemed jury panel declared the 6 best entrepreneurs of the year in the following categories: Agricultural, Education, Health, Information Technology, Production, and Best Women Entrepreneur of the year.

This year’s winners are- Md Emrul Hasan (Agriculture), Ayman Sadiq (Education), Beauty Begum (Health), Subir Nokrek (IT Sector), Al-Mamun and Nasimul Haq (Production), and Maksuda Khatun (Best Women Entrepreneur).

According to the release, SME entrepreneurs play a vital role in the economic growth of developed countries. The SME sector of these countries on average contributes 60 per cent to the national GDP, whereas the SME sector of Bangladesh only contributes about 23-27 per cent to the national GDP.

Speakers at the event said that the development of this sector on one hand would play a critical role in creating adequate employment, while also help in the improvement of the quality of life of the people.
