Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), paramilitary force responsible for the border security, has celebrated Bangladesh’s 52nd Victory Day on Friday paying deep homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
After a nine-month-long war, Bangladesh finally gained its freedom as an independent country on this glorious day, December 16, 1971 with the surrender of Pakistani occupation forces.
All regional and sector units including BGB headquarter held a series of programmes to celebrate the day. The celebration on December 16 commenced with the hoisting of the national flags at all units.
BGB Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed, SPP NSWC, AFWC, PSC was present while President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreaths at the National Mausoleum in Savar with the rising of the sun.
BGB Director General also placed wreaths at ‘Simanto Gourav’ at Pilkhana and gave guard of honour paying tribute to the Liberation War martyrs at 8am. Special prayers were held at all mosques of BGB for eternal peace of the departed souls of the Father of the Nation, his family and martyrs of the Liberation War and also for the continued peace and prosperity of Bangladesh.
Marking the day, all units of BGB were decorated with banners and festoons and film exhibitions on Liberation War were held for all BGB members and their families.
