BRAC University’s Social Impact Lab and BRAC jointly organised a workshop at the university campus in Dhaka recently to engage students into becoming more aware of road safety protocols and risk assessment.

Renowned Actor Ilias Kanchan, who is also the founder and Chairman of voluntary social organisation Nirapad Sarak Chai, attended the event as the special guest, said a press release.

Ahmed Najmul Hussain, Director of Administration of BRAC Road Safet; M Khalid Mahmood, Road Safety Programme Manager of BRAC; Tahsina Rahman, Joint Director of Student Life, BRAC University; and Srijan Banik, a student of the School of Data and Sciences and Director and founder of Social Impact Lab, also attended the event among others.

Social Impact Lab is a platform by the students of BRAC University to convene student leaders and change-makers to co-create and create a positive impact in the community, said the release.

Ilias Kanchan led the workshop, urging to work with passion to ensure a safer world and assuring to provide support from his organisation.

M Khalid Mahmood spoke on road safety policies BRAC is working on and Najmul Hussain delivered an insightful speech regarding road safety.

The students asked questions about changes necessary to road safety protocols and staged mime performance “Better safe than sorry” depicting the scenario of students using motorcycles.

Helmets were given away through a lottery to highlight the necessity of certifications for safety equipment. At the end, the event participants took a pledge, providing signatures on a dedicated wall, to make the
road safer.
