A social welfare initiative, titled “10 Takay Ushnotar Hashi,” has provided winter clothing and goods to hundreds of underprivileged people at a cheap rate in Sonpocha Char area of Sariakandi, Bogura.
Non-profit organisation Together for Bangladesh, in collaboration with Chitrokarkhana, organised the programme that showcased different winter garments and goods including blankets, sweaters, lotions, mufflers and socks. Each item was sold at only Tk 10, said a press release.
The locals have expressed their satisfaction and gratitude to the organisers for such a praiseworthy initiative. On January 14, the organisers’ team arrived at Sonpocha Char, which is more than 40km away from Bogura Sadar upazila. The char is situated in such a remote area that horses are used there for transport.
The organisers tried to support 300 village people in Sonpocha Char while the motivation was to make them feel that they were buying their necessary goods on their own. The team also visited the Uchash School, the only school of Sonpocha Char and distributed educational materials. In the afternoon, engaging the village people, the team also organised a community seminar to acknowledge their needs followed by a cultural event with village children.
Together for Bangladesh Executive Director SM Nazmus Sakib said, “We are looking forward to arranging ‘10takay Ushnotar Hashi’ Bazar in every possible place in Bangladesh where needed. Our purpose is to make the rich community aware of the fact that with their little contribution, a lot of people can be benefited”.
