Speakers focus on valuation of rivers, natural resources

Speakers at the 8th International Water Conference emphasised on valuation of rivers and natural resources for sustainable future and country’s development.

The three-day-long 8th International Water Conference took place from January 23-25 in Sylhet with the theme ‘Water and Rivers for Life and Living: The Role of Youth’, organised by ActionAid Bangladesh.

Saber Hossain Chowdhury, parliament member and chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in the closing session said, “The whole concept of recognising river as living entity is appreciable, to transform policies and actions we need to identify ways for valuation of rivers and natural resources.”

The conference emphasised on watershed history, morphology and changes; river as a living entity and anthropogenic impacts on water and river; youth engagement in water and river rights; transboundary river and water politics and innovation: water, ecosystem and sustainable livelihoods.
