British Council trains 1,200 girls in three districts

British Council has initiated a training programme on English and digital education for 1200 girls in three districts aiming to ensure quality education for the sustainable development of the country.

DNET and British Council in partnership with the English and Digital for Girls Education (EDGE) project settled up English and Digital Education Clubs for underprivileged adolescent girls in remote rural areas in this regard, said a press release.

DNET and the British Council are jointly making English and digital education skills for 1200 girls in Manikganj, Chattogram and Lalmonirhat through the 'English and Digital for Girls Education (EDGE)' project financed by the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC).

Before starting the third phase of this project, training of peer group leaders was organised for three days from January 17 to 25. Two Peer Group Leaders (PGLs) from each club participated in this three-day training conducted by expert trainers from the British Council.

Teen girls learned about internet browsing, MS office, safe internet use, awareness of social media rumours, and digital security in information technology education.

For social awareness, Meena cartoons (English version) were exhibited to locate various social problems and solutions. Later, they discussed the problems among themselves. They also learned about 21st-century skills such as citizenship, communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking etc.

Through the clubs, teenagers discussed various issues of English practice, digital education practice, and social awareness and learned about various income-generating initiatives. As a result, these adolescent girls will become socially and economically self-reliant and will be able to contribute at various levels of the state.
