Fire Service rescuers have illuminated the image of Bangladesh in the global arena with their skilled and sincere rescue efforts in the devastated region of quake-hit Turkey, said Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence Brig Gen Md Main Uddin.

“It is a great achievement for Bangladesh,” Main Uddin said while talking to the media at the head office of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence on Wednesday, said a press release.

Some 200 establishments were destroyed by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that devastated both countries on 6 February. The quake killed around 44,000 people in Turkey and Syria with tens of thousands more left homeless.

Following the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a specialised 12-member team of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence has flown out to Turkey as part of Bangladesh's response to the deadly earthquake in Turkey on February 9. They returned home on Wednesday.

“Along with sending the rescue team, we also sent warm cloth for the earthquake survivors”, he said.

Besides, a video documentary was shown during the press conference where Turkish people expressed their gratitude and praised the rescue operation of the Bangladeshi team.
