Speakers at a round table seminar highlighted the importance of using data science in the public sector and sought the collaboration of the industry, academia and government in
this regard.
Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) organised the round table on ‘Prospects of Data Science’ at Bangabandhu Bangladesh–China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal on Friday, said a press release.
The prospect of data science in Bangladesh is huge, the speakers said, adding that, the local and international market is there for Bangladeshi data scientists and data engineers
to capture.
Keynote speaker Data Scientist and Innovation Specialist for Digital Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ecosystem Development Project MA Bari talked about the importance of using data science in the public sector and suggested the industry, academia and government collaborate on the matter.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam was the chief guest of the event. He suggested that a change in the education system will give better results.
“Students should not study just to get a job. They should focus on developing skills and data science is a must-have skill”, he said.
AKM Fahim Mashroor, former president of BASIS, M Manjur Mahmud, president of DataSoft Systems, Dr Md Humayun Kabir, CIO of Austrian government, Abdullah Al Mahmud, CEO of Thriving Skills and Shahzada Redwan, director and CEO of SSL Commerz Ltd spoke at the event, among others. Habibullah N Karim, director and former president of BASIS moderated the round table.
