Dhaka Classics, a non-profit new musical foundation that aims to promote Western classical, jazz, and traditional Bengali music, announced its official launch on Sunday.
The foundation also aims to create a platform for local and international musicians to showcase their talents and provide music lovers in Bangladesh with quality performances, reads a press statement.
Besides, the foundation is passionate about preserving and promoting these musical genres and creating opportunities for musicians to develop and hone their craft.
Marking the launch of the foundation, a Meet the Press event was organised that featured a presentation on its history and goals, as well as musical performances by Musical Director Kelley Taylor and visiting guest artist Neil Mukherjee.
Diplomats, expats, government and corporate high officials, socialites, celebrities, influencers and media graced the event.
“We are excited to share our vision for Dhaka Classics with the press and the public,” said the media spokesperson Sanjana who works as the communications and public image chair for the foundation.
Also speaking on the occasion, Music Director Taylor said, “We believe that Western classical, jazz and Bangla music are important cultural treasures that should be celebrated and preserved. We look forward to working with individuals and organisations who share our passion and commitment to promoting these musical genres.
With a mission to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh, the foundation will organise recitals, masterclasses and educational opportunities for aspiring musicians and students to learn from the experts and develop their skills. Dhaka Classics has an impressive line-up of events planned for the coming months.
