UIU inaugurates research, innovation institute

United International University (UIU) on Tuesday inaugurated the Institute of Research, Innovation, Incubation and Commercialization (IRIC) aiming to build a smart Bangladesh through innovative research.

In her speech as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said that the establishment of IRIC is a timely decision as during the 4th industrial revolution, industry and academia will play an important role in research collaboration, startup ecosystem and building an innovative nation, said a press release.

“The students of the institute which was inaugurated will take the lead in building a technology-based country in the future”, she said.

“AIMS laboratory projects of UIU Prof Dr Khondaker Abdullah Al Mamun, director of IRIIC have contributed to transforming Bangladesh’s health sector into a digital transformation over the past few years and the first Brain Computer Interface (BCI) research lab developed by him undoubtedly deserves praise”, she added.

“IRIIC is a unique step towards building smart Bangladesh we dream of in 2041. We will continue to receive all kinds of support and cooperation from the government”, Dipu Moni said.

The director of the IRIIC Prof Mamun is working for building a Smart Bangladesh by establishing active links between academia, industry and government. He has brought AIIMS Lab, BCI Research Lab, Center for Digital Health Innovation and Policy Research and Industry and Academia Collaboration Center for 4IR under one roof.

UIU has taken initiative to establish IRIIC to facilitate research, innovation, and incubation and commercialisation culture in Bangladesh using 4IR technology.

Faculty members, officials, academicians, government officials, industry officials, researchers and other distinguished guests from various universities and institutions in Bangladesh were present at the inaugural ceremony.

Md Jashim Uddin, president of FBCCI, Faruque Hassan, president of BGMEA, Mohammad Hatem, executive president of BKMEA and Moinuddin Hasan Rashid, chairman and MD of United Group were present as the special guests at the event.

The welcome address was delivered by Prof Dr M Rezwan Khan, executive director of the Institute for Advanced Research and Professor Emeritus, UIU Prof Dr Khondaker Abdullah Al Mamun were present as a keynote speaker.

Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia, vice-chancellor (In-Charge) of UIU presided over the inaugural ceremony.
