On behalf of the Chancellor, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni presided over the ceremony and conferred the degrees among students including three learners who received gold medals for their academic excellence, said a press release.

In her speech, Dipu Moni said that “To establish a smart Bangladesh smart education is required and for that, we need research and invention which will create positive changes in the economy and society.” She mentioned that more importance will be given to coding, design, robotics and entrepreneurship.

In addition, she thanked East West University for maintaining quality education and properly following all rules and regulations. Simultaneously, she asked the graduates to play the role of responsible citizens in their professional lives.

Professor Dr Rounaq Jahan, a political scientist and distinguished fellow at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) was present as the convocation speaker. Dr Rounaq Jahan requested students keep ethics and values in mind while using technology. Members of the Board of Trustees, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Treasurer, Deans, faculty members, officers, staff, graduates and their guardians participated in the convocation, among others.

After getting government approval under the Private University Act (Act 34) of 1992, East West University was launched in 1996. Today there are over 434 faculty members and approximately 10500 students enrolled through a selection process.

EWU was established with interrelated objectives of augmenting national capacity for tertiary education to a larger number of students, thereby contributing to the country’s human capital development process.

By providing access to affordable university-level education to students from less-well-to-do sections of society, EWU seeks to harness the power of individuals through higher education, by raising employable skills and improving access to job opportunities, thereby contributing to a more balanced and just society.
