Daffodil International University (DIU) observed the historic March 7 on Tuesday commemorating the landmark speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
DIU held a discussion programme to commemorate the speech that inspired Bengali nation and freedom-fighters in 1971, said a press release.
In 2017, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) recognised the historic March 7 speech as a world documentary heritage.
The discussion was presided over by DIU Acting Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer Mominul Haque Majumdar while Vice-Chancellor (Acting), Prof Dr Mustafa Kamal, Registrar Dr Mohammad Nadir Bin Ali and Faculty Dean Humanities and Social Sciences Prof AMM Hamidur Rahman were present.
DIU Student Affairs Director Syed Mizanur Rahman delivered the welcome speech, and Proctor Sheikh Mohammad Alaiyar delivered the keynote speech.
In his speech, Mominul Haque Majumdar highlighted how Bangabandhu's instructions during his March 7 speech had inspired the entire nation to engage in the struggle for liberation and achieve independence.
Professor Dr Mustafa Kamal said, “The entire Bengali nation marched under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on this unforgettable and historical day of national life”. Mahbub Parvez, head of the Tourism and Hospitality Department, recited a poem on the occasion.
