bKash supports Shah Abdul Karim folk festival in Sunamganj

Two-day long Shah Abdul Karim folk festival (Loko Utshob) supported by bKash was celebrated in Ujandhal village of Derai Upazila in Sunamganj.

The festival was organised on the occasion of the 107th birth anniversary of the Baul Samrat Shah Abdul Karim and a large number of folk singers and folk-loving audiences participated, said a press release.

In collaboration with bKash, the country’s largest mobile financial service provider, Shah Abdul Karim Parishad organised the two-day festival which started with a musical performance on March 3.

At the inaugural event, speakers said that the legendary Bangladeshi Baul musician Shah Abdul Karim used to sing for the common people. His songs portrayed the stories of social structure and state, the rights of the oppressed and disadvantaged people, as well as the unique expressions of love and separation, they said. His songs contained self-discovery and life-oriented directions for humanity, they added.

Ekushey Padak winner Baul Samrat Shah Abdul Karim was commemorated with his songs at the event presided by Shah Nur Jalal, convener of the Abdul Karim Loko Utshob organising committee and the only son of Shah Abdul Karim.
