Nation yet to reach desired level of gender equality: Speakers

Speakers at a discussion programme said that despite the women have made significant progress in recent years but still the nation is yet to reach the desired level of gender equality.

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) on Saturday organised the discussion programme celebrating International Women’s Day 2023 at ICMA Bhaban in Nilkhet said a press release.

Dr Farhina Ahmed, secretary of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry who was the chief guest at the programme, said “The potential of every individual should be unlocked for transforming Bangladesh as a developed country. The advancement of women has made significant progress but the nation yet to reach the desired level of gender equality.”

In her speech, she said that “Bangladesh’s journey towards becoming a developed country by 2041 is not easy; there is no shortcut method and all of us irrespective of male and female have to work hard to reach this goal.”

ICMAB President Md Abdur Rahman Khan delivered the welcome speech and briefly narrated the evolution process of CMA profession in Bangladesh. He said that although enrolment of female students has increased in recent years, still female participation in CMA profession is not satisfactory. He also spoke about the importance of IT knowledge for women for empowering themselves.

Later, a prayer was offered for the welfare of female students who were recently burnt critically at the explosion at Science Lab area fire incident.
