Session on Archaeoastronomy held at ULAB

The Department of General Education (GED) and Center for Archaeological Studies (CAS) of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a seminar on Archaeoastronomy on Monday.

Head of the Department and the Director of the Center for Archaeological Studies (CAS) Professor Dr Shahnaj Husne Jahan delivered a welcome speech at the event, said a press release.

In her speech, she highlighted the importance of the exercise of astronomical aspects of the ancient period.

Somenath Chatterjee, the keynote speaker and a researcher of the history and philosophy of science and history of Astronomy, in India stated that the study of astronomical practices of all ancient cultures is in the field of archaeo-astronomy.

Central to the seminar were participatory discussions on issues like defining astronomy as anthropology to distinguish it from the history of astronomy.

The speaker mentioned that Indian archaeoastronomical sites represent not only archaeological records of thousands of years back but a living tradition that is connected to the past. The students and faculties from several disciplines of ULAB participated in this seminar.
