Speakers in a discussion highlighted the importance of leveraging technology and innovation to embrace equity, ensure accessibility, and promote fairness across various dimensions of work and life.
The event was organised by the Standard Chartered Bank celebrating International Women’s Day on Wednesday where Zeeshan Zakaria, co-founder and chief operations officer of Shikho; Tawhida Shiropa, founder and chief executive officer of Moner Bondhu; and Reyasat Chowdhury, co-founder and chief executive officer of Shuttle brought forth a number of key insights and talking points.
As part of the discussion, all three panellists took the time to reflect on and speak about their careers and experiences, according to a press release. They also provided the audience with ideas, insights, and tools to inspire future discussions and decisions.
The bank also organised employee volunteering opportunities and avenues to promote digital learning in honour of International Women’s Day. One of these initiatives includes mentorship opportunities for girls from the Goal programme, an initiative powered by Futuremakers by Standard Chartered and supported by the Population Services and Training Centre (PSTC) that targets 8,300 underprivileged girls.
The Goal programme combines sports with life-skills training to provide young women with the knowledge and skills needed to become economic leaders in their families and communities.
Naser Ezaz Bijoy, chief executive officer of Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said, “Not everyone has the same starting point in life, so we must all strive to provide those who need it most with the support they need to succeed. That is why equity is so important and why it underlies both the work we do internally to help our colleagues and the efforts we make to uplift our communities. Creating a nurturing environment where women and men feel confident, safe and empowered is paramount.”
Standard Chartered Bank’s community engagement and sustainability initiatives encompass and extend far beyond the confines of International Women’s Day. The Bank’s flagship community engagement programme, Futuremakers is dedicated to helping the next generation to learn, earn, and grow. The Bank solidly stands behind the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
