Huawei to set up ICT Academy at CUET

Huawei Technologies, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, will set up an ICT Academy at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) soon with an aim to train and develop ICT talents.

It will be the sixth ICT academy established by Huawei South Asia in Bangladesh.

In this regard, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Chinese multinational technology company and CUET on Tuesday.

CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, CUET Registrar Professor Sheikh Muhammad Humayun Kabir, Huawei’s Director of South Asia Enterprise Partner Development and Management Department Zhang Cheng and Najia Samantha Islam, corporate affairs manager of Huawei’s South Asia Public Relations Department were present at the MoU signing ceremony.

In the first stage, faculty members of CUET will be trained through this ICT Academy to become certified instructors. Later on, these certified instructors will train the students of CUET, said a press release.

At the event, Rafiqul Alam said, “We are delighted to join hands with Huawei for establishing an ICT Academy on our campus. Industry-academia collaboration is very important in the present context to produce graduates with the right set of skills for the evolving world. I hope this academy will play a significant role in training our students for the future world.”

Zhang Cheng said, “The world is changing owing to rapid digitalisation. Huawei knows it and that is why, we want to prepare talented individuals in a way so that they can thrive in the future world.”

“In order to achieve the goal, it is important that an ICT ecosystem conducive for their learning is built and they are equipped with proper ICT skills. Huawei has been taking various initiatives to enable this ICT ecosystem. In continuation of our efforts, we are setting up the 6th ICT academy of Huawei South Asia on CUET campus.”

Huawei launched ICT Academy, an industry-academia cooperation project, back in 2013. Currently, Huawei has 1,500 such ICT academies in more than 90 countries including the UK, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

In total, more than 927 colleges and universities are involved in this initiative, helping thousands of learners worldwide. Huawei South Asia has so far set up five ICT Academies at different universities of Bangladesh.
