Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) for collaboration on promoting and branding Bangladesh and enhancing Chinese investment in the Economic Zones.
The MoU signing ceremony was held on Wednesday at BEZA Conference Hall chaired by Shaikh Yusuf Harun, executive chairman of BEZA, said a press release.
The MoU was signed between Md Moniruzzaman, general manager of Investment Promotion of BEZA and Al Mamun Mridha, secretary general of BCCCI on behalf of their respective organisations in presence of BCCCI Senior Vice President Brig Gen Shah Md Sultan Uddin Iqbal.
Under the agreement, BCCCI and BEZA will act in close cooperation to enhance investment from China through holding joint consultation meetings, investment dialogues, conferences, round table conferences and by holding exhibitions jointly.
In his speech on the occasion of the MoU signing, the BEZA Chairman said that BEZA and BCCCI have already been working together on issues relating to enhancing private Chinese investment and that China being the largest development partner of Bangladesh has been investing in various undertakings.
Al Mamun Mridha, secretary general of BCCCI in his speech noted that “This day, in particular, is a memorable day for BCCCI as from today BCCCI and BEZA would work more closely together as investment partners, which would focus on private Chinese investment in Bangladesh.”
The meeting was attended by high officials of BEZA and BCCCI, including BCCCI Senior Vice President Brig Gen Shah Md Sultan Uddin Iqbal, (Retd), Badrul Alam Khan, vice president, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, vice president, Md Faizul Alam, joint secretary general, Li Xiao, director, Khondaker Atiqur Rahman, director, Haroon Ur Rashid, director, Zakir Uddin Ahmed, director and Md Abu Taher, office secretary, BCCCI.
BCCCI negotiates with the common stakeholders to ensure the best benefits from this business body to take Bangladesh-China trade and economic relations to a newer height. Apart from extending economic and defence cooperation, China has all along lent its support to Bangladesh in different international forums.
