Professor Dr Shah Alimuzzaman has been appointed as the vice chancellor (VC) of Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) for the next four years.
He was already serving university as VC (routine duty).
The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued a notification in this regard on Sunday, according to a press statement.
Prof Alimuzzaman joined BUTEX - the then as College of Textile Engineering and Technology - as a lecturer on 25 July 1993. He was promoted to assistant professor in 2001 and associate professor in 2009. Later, on May 23, 2015, he was promoted to the rank of professor, and is currently a grade-1 professor. He is a Bangabandhu fellow. Besides, he is one of the researchers of Prime Minister’s muslin revival project.
Prof Alimuzzaman passed his SSC and HSC exams – both in first class - from the Jashore Board in 1983 and 1985 respectively. He completed his BSc in Textile Technology in 1992 from the then College of Textile Institute (now BUTEX) under the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh with first class 2nd position. He obtained his Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Textile Science and Technology from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, UK, under the Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship in 1996. However, he returned the country after the fellowship programme was shut down in 2003. Later, after the programee was relaunched in 2010, he became the first textile engineer to complete a Master of Science (MSc) in Textile Engineering under the fellowship from University of Ghent, Belgium with honors marks.
Besides, Alimuzzaman is currently serving as the president of the Teachers’ Association after being for the second term. He has also served as the registrar of the university (additional duties).
In his personal life, Alimuzzaman is a father of three daughters. He is also the owner of the first research patent - unstitched jute - of BUTEX.
Moreover, he is a CText FTI fellow, given from the Textile Institute, Manchester, UK. The fellowship is awarded under the Textile Institute’s Royal Charter.
Vice President of Bangabandhu Textile Engineers Association, Alimuzzaman has so far published more than 22 research papers in various international journals.
