Banga Millers Ltd, a sister concern of the PRAN group, has started procuring Boro paddy and maize from its contractual farmers in different areas of Dinajpur.
Advocate Mostafizur Rahman, lawmaker of Dinajpur-5 constituency and Naser Ahmed, executive director of Banga Millers inaugurated the procurement at the premises of the PRAN factory in Dinajpur on Wednesday, said a press release.
At the programme, PRAN also handed over the seeds of Aman paddy to the farmers. This year, the company will provide Aman seeds to 1,800 farmers.
Addressing the event, Naser Ahmed said, 4,500 contractual farmers across the Dinajpur are cultivating paddy, maize and potato for PRAN.
PRAN will procure 5,220 metric tons of paddy with nine variants including BR-16, BRI-28, 29, 50, 74, 89, 90, Zirashail and Katari from 2,200 acres of land. Therefore, the company will provide 20 metric tons of seeds to the farmers to collect 3,220 metric tons of paddy for the upcoming Aman season.
“Farmers of PRAN have cultivated maize at 1,100 acres of land this season. PRAN targeted to procure 4,500 metric tons of maize from the farmers at market price”, he added.
Kamruzzaman Kamal, marketing director at PRAN-RFL Group said, PRAN has been working for a long time to develop the quality of agricultural products and improve the standard of living of the farmers.
“It has helped the farmers to get the standard and highest number of crops through providing seeds, pesticides and training. Now, PRAN has more than one lakh of contractual farmers across the country who are producing various products including paddy, maize, potato, mango, tomato, lentil and cassava”, he stated.
Muhammad Wasiqul Islam, Fulbari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Muhammad Zafor Arif Chowdhury, assistant commissioner (Land), Rumman Akter, upazila agricultural officer and Zakaria Hossain, general manager of Banga Millers factory, were also present at the programme.
