North South University’s Earth Club hosted a special competition titled ‘EnvoFrame’ on Monday to elevate awareness and advocacy around the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by leveraging the impact of visual storytelling.
The event was sponsored by EnvoLead where Nahim Razzaq, a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Convenor of Climate Parliament Bangladesh, was present as the chief guest.
Professor Dr M Ismail Hossain, pro-vice-chancellor of NSU chaired the session, according to a press release. Other notable attendees included Dr Mubarak Ahmed, scientific advisor to the Bangladesh Jute Mill Corporation and inventor of the Sonali Bag.
Dr Kamrun Nahar, professor of the Department of Environmental Science and Management at NSU, and Dr Gour Gobinda Goswami, professor in the Department of Economics and Director of the Students’ Affairs Office at NSU, were special guests.
Nahim Razzaq highlighted the pressing need for environmental protection, “Climate change is the biggest challenge for the present and future generations. Everyone has a responsibility to contribute from their place.” He urged participants to seek solutions rather than simply identifying problems.
Echoing these sentiments, Professor Dr M Ismail Hossain emphasised the role of such initiatives in environmental preservation, stating, “These endeavours will play a crucial role in protecting the environment.”
In this event, participants submitted compelling narratives, novel solutions, and evidence of positive impact to bolster support for the SDGs. The panel of esteemed judges, including Md Abdul Quayyum, head of communications at UNDP Bangladesh, and Md Mahfuzur Rahnman Mishu, special correspondent at Jamuna Television Ltd, oversaw the competition.
Team Mitra triumphed, winning the first prize, followed by Team Plastid and Team Eternal in second and third places, respectively.
