Robi suggests reduction of SIM tax

Robi Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Shahed Alam on Friday suggested a reduction of SIM tax to encourage future investments in the development of telecommunication infrastructure.

“We urge for a reduction in the minimum turnover tax rate to 1 per cent imposed on the listed telecom companies”, he said in reaction to the proposed budget placed by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal for FY2023-24 in Parliament on Thursday, reads a press release. The proposed budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 has been presented to establish a Smart Bangladesh, he said.

“A significant step for ensuring connectivity to the unconnected people can be the reduction of SIM tax”, he added.
