Hamdard Laboratories WAQF Bangladesh, the largest herbal (unani) pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh, on Monday distributed gifts among the Hajj pilgrims.
The gift items were handed over to the authorities of the Ashkona Hajj Camp in the capital while State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan was present as the chief guest, according to a press release.
Hajj, an annual Islamic pilgrimage at Mecca in Saudi Arabia, the holiest city for Muslims, will be held on the 9th day of Zilhaj (June 28) depending on the moon sighting this year.
Hakim Md Yousuf Harun Bhuiyan, Managing Director and Chief Mutawalli of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh and founder of Hamdard University Bangladesh presided over the event where Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shafiul Azim, Director of Hajj Office Dhaka branch Md Saiful Islam, Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) President M Shahadat Hossain Taslim were special guests.
In his speech, Md Faridul Haque Khan said “Hamdard has set a unique example in case of human welfare and as part of its continuous efforts, the company has also stood beside the hajj pilgrims like in previous years. We hope it will march ahead with further new innovative ideas of welfare in the future.”
Dr Hakim Md Yousuf Harun Bhuiyan said Hamdard is trying its best to continue its service amid the global economic crisis. “We organised the gifts as we want to stand beside the hajj pilgrims with sincerity. Besides, Hamdard always tries to provide the first service during different natural calamities like storm, flood or fire incidents.” Moreover, Hamdard on a regular basis operates free medical camps and medicine distribution on different national days, he added.
Hamdard Foundation Bangladesh Director Lieutenant Colonel Mahbubul Alam Chowdhury retired, and Director of Information and Media Amirul Momenin Manik were also present at the event, among others.
