Buddhist monk Ven Prajnananda Mahathera on Thursday received the Education Watch Award for his outstanding contribution to education and social reform.
The award-giving ceremony was held marking the 16th anniversary of the education magazine ‘Education Watch’, said a press statement.
Prajnananda Mahathera has been working for the educational and socio-economic development of the indigenous communities living in the three hill districts for a long time.
Mahathera was born on February 1, 1952, in Babuchara village of Dighinala upazila of Khagracchari district. He obtained BA Honors in Bengali Literature from the University of Chittagong and an MA degree in Pali literature from Dhaka University.
He took up monastic life immediately after passing the Secondary School Certificate examination and concentrated on human services.
He founded the Shishu Shikkha Sadan named ‘Moanoghar’ and 14 educational, training and service institutions. Banophool Adibashi Green Heart College was built in Mirpur.
He also successfully served as General Secretary of Parbatya Bhikkhu Sangha Bangladesh and President of Parbattya Bouddha Sangha.
