Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has recently been awarded the National Environment Award 2021.
The award was presented at the institutional level in Environmental Protection and Pollution Control category. This marks the second time that the RCC has won this honour, under the leadership of RCC Mayor A. H. M. Khairuzzaman Liton, for his special contribution to protecting the environment.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined through video conference from the Ganabhaban as the chief guest at the inaugural function of World Environment Day 2022 and Environment Fair 2022.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Md Shahab Uddin handed over the National Environment Award to Mayor A. H. M. Khairuzzaman Liton, mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation, on Sunday at 11 AM.
Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEF) Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MOEF Deputy Minister Habibun Nahar, and MOEF Deputy Secretary Farhina Ahmed were present at the programme, among others.
RCC Mayor A. H. M. Khairuzzaman Liton said, “I am truly honoured and grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for awarding the National Environment Award 2021 to Rajshahi City Corporation at the institutional level in Bangladesh on World Environment Day.”
“It is of utmost importance to RCC staff and me to be conscious and careful in protecting the environment. We always prioritize activities such as tree-planting, creating green zones, garbage disposal, maintaining odour-free environments, etc.,” he said.
He also added, “We received the National Environment Award for the first time in 2012. Ten years down the line, I believe that winning this medal for the second time will motivate our staff to be more attentive to improving the environment.”
