Shilpakala Academy celebrates 49th founding anniversary

The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy celebrated its 49th founding anniversary on Sunday through discussion meeting and cultural programmes.

The programmes began early at 10.00 am with the hoisting of the national flag at the Nandan Mancha of the academy where all artists and officials and employees of the organisation were present, according to a press statement.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky talked about the activities and work plan of the academy.

Later, the director general officially inaugurated a 10-day exhibition on the activities of various departments of the 49-year-old arts academy. This 10-day long exhibition will be open for all from 11.00 am to 8.00 pm.

The exhibition, taking place at the Jatiya Chitrashala Auditorium, will continue till February 28, 2022.

Meanwhile, the morning cultural programmes began at 11.00 am at the auditorium. Later, various cultural performances were held with the participation of artists, officials and employees of the academy. In addition, children performed in various programmes and displayed acrobatic enthralling the audience.

As part of the academy’s arrangements in the evening, at 5.00 pm, a colorful rally and procession passed through the gates of the National Theater, the National Art Gallery, academy grounds and ended at Nandan Mancha.

State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid, Cultural Affairs Secretary Abul Mansoor and others participated in the colorful Anand Rally and Shobha Yatra.

In the afternoon, the cultural programmes started with the performance of the national anthem. Academy Director General Liaquat Ali Laki presided over the ceremony where Shilpakala Academy Secretary Salahuddin Ahemd gave a welcome speech. State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid attended the programme as its chief guest where Secretary for Culture Affairs Md Abul Mansoor was a special guest.

The cultural programmes were comprised of various performances including solo music, palagan, ensemble music, classical dance, etc.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is the principal state-sponsored national cultural center of Bangladesh. It is the national academy of fine and performing arts. The academy was established through an act of Parliament in 1974 as a statutory organisation under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. But subsequently the Act of 1974 of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy was amended through a new act of Parliament in 1989.
