UIU Mars Rover wins 1st place in Asia

The UIU Mars Rover team from United International University (UIU) won first place in Asia at the University Rover Challenge 2022, organized by the Mars Society. From June 1 to 4, 2022, the competition was held at the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in Southern Utah, USA.

UIU Mars Rover team has secured 13th place out of all 36 finalists and first among the Asian teams in the prestigious University Rover Challenge (URC) 2022. Thirty-six teams from 10 different countries, including USA, Poland, India, Bangladesh, Australia, Canada, Columbia, Egypt, Mexico and Turkiye, compete in the grand final of the competition.

During the three days final, the teams performed four missions including science exploration, autonomous navigation, extreme terrain traversal, and Equipment servicing mission, to demonstrate their rover capabilities and operation skills. UIU Mars Rover successfully completed all four missions and represented the university along with the country with pride.

The team was supervised by Akib Zaman, a Lecturer from the Department of CSE, UIU. A team of 9 members from UIU Robotics Club took part in the competition. The student leads of this project is Rokib Hasan from CSE Department of UIU. The other subteams are led by Dip Chakraborty (Vice Lead and Management SubTeam Lead), Abid Hossain (Mechanical SubTeam Lead), Ahmed Junaed Tanim (Electrical SubTeam Lead), Abdullah Al Masud (Software SubTeam Lead), T M Al Anam (Communication SubTeam Lead) and Zidan Talukder (Science SubTeam Lead).
